Panabo City, Davao del Norte – turned-over 30 units of non-motorized fishing vessels funded under the Bottom-Up Budgeting (BUB) Approach on October 29, 2015 at 9:00 AM at the Baywalk, Cagangohan, Panabo City in time of the 3rd Binulig Festival.

The project aims to improve the socio-economic status of fisherfolks  who have the highest poverty incidence in the different sectors of society. There are 515 registered fisherfolks in the four coastal barangays of the city. The project proponent (DA, BFAR & LGU) allocated  Php 2.1 million to finance these 30 locally- made bancas, for the purchase of fishing gears establishment of 3 units of payao.

Meanwhile, Mayor James G. Gamao through his representative, Edgar Gerale said, “I am hoping you will take good care of these bancas. Let’s  protect and conserve the seas so that the coming generations can inherit and enjoy its bounties.”

For his part, Hon. Renante Bangoy Chairman, Committee on Agriculture and Tourism asserted that: “At first, they did not believe the city could provide bancas. But through the city government and the BUB approach, their dreams of owning one became a reality. Also, a fish port and other facilities will soon be put up to provide more economic activity which is initiated by congressman Anton F. Lagdameo and the local government unit of Panabo.”

The fisherfolks from the different associations were happy and eager to use immediately  the fishing vessels to try its seaworthiness. “Nagapasalamat mi sa LGU Panabo hilabi na kay Mayor James Gamao, Vice Mayor Biboy Gavina, Konsehal Bangoy ug kay Ali Mayato, head sa CAGRO sa ilang pagtabang sa amoa. Labaw sa tanan, sa atong  Ginoo nga mao ang tinubdan sa tanan ,” stressed by Meliton Punong, president of Gugma sa Mananagat  Association from San Vicente.
