DOH XI Regional Director Dr. Abdullah B. Dumama Jr. honored Mati at the Royal Mandaya Hotel as a Malaria Disease-Free City last Noveber 19, Thursday.
A zero malaria case since 2004 in the City paved the way to significantly give tribute to the entire Province of Davao Oriental as a Malaria Disease-Free Zone in the entire Region XI.
From 5,860 malaria cases in Davao Oriental in 2001, it went down to 64 cases in 2014, or a 99% reduction, and 90% of this came from Mati.
To return the favor of the collaborative efforts in combating malaria disease in the City, Mayor Carlo Rabat, represented by City Coun. Ben T. Linsag and City Health Officer Dr. Ben Hur Catbagan, received the plaque of recognition, token of appreciation and a cash prize worth Php 60,000.00.
