Two barangay officials of Brgy Daliaoan, Toril District, Davao City were ambushed by NPAs from Guerilla Front 54 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) in Brgy Alambre of the same city at around 1:30 in the afternoon, December 5, 2015.
Troops from 84th Infantry Battalion who were also passing in the area came to the rescue of the beleaguered officials, inflicting casualties on the NPAs and forcing them to scamper leaving behind one of their dead comrades and an M653 rifle popularly know as a ‘baby armalite’.
Brgy Captain Generoso Bacalso and Brgy Kagawad Ducris Daug were onboard a motorcycle going to Toril proper when ambushed by the NPAs along Prk 5, Brgy Alambre.
Bacalso sustained a gunshot wound at his left hand while Daug managed to escape. A group of soldiers from the 84th Infantry Battalion who were travelling on the same road following the two barangay officials witnessed the ambush.
The soldiers engaged the NPAs in a gun battle. No soldier was hurt in the incident.
The Commander of the 10th Infantry Division, MGen Rafael Valencia, lauded the gallantry of the soldiers of 84th Infantry Battalion who came to the rescue of the beleaguered barangay officials.
“We cannot allow these terroristic actions of the NPAs to persist. They (NPAs) are targeting innocent civilians, thus, the people of Davao City should already voice out their desire for peace and to condemn the use of force to attain their political objectives,” MGen Valencia concluded.
Bacalso was immediately brought to the hospital for medication. While, the 84th Infantry Battalion is now conducting pursuit to the fleeing NPAs.
