Panabo City, Davao del Norte – The Mindanao Interfaith Services Foundation Inc. (MISFI) in partnership with Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT-Davao Region) along with the cooperation and assistance of the Panabo City Government conducts a three-day Mindanao-wide Teacher’s Leadership Skills Training for IP teachers to uphold IP education in far flung areas in Mindanao from January 15 to 17, 2016 held at Panabo Function Hall 3rd floor City Hall building, Panabo City.
Present in the said event as invited Guest Speakers are Panabo City Administrator, Atty. Jamail Lunar G. Macla who talked about the Major Legal Bases and Minor Legal Bases of Government’s laws uplifting legal rights of students to education protecting them from militarization and Spokesperson of Save our Schools Network (SOS), Rius Valle who tackled about the widespread of militarization in Lumad community schools affecting IP students from remote areas in Mindanao.
MISFI organized the said seminar towards aiming proper dissemination of information for IP teachers to protect the children from being affected by military presence and attacks in different communities.
Valle said that over 95 attacks, 81 schools and 4, 265 students are affected by Armed groups as of last year 2015.
The purpose of the skills training is to equip teachers on the legal bases of Education from the DepEd’s memorandum and as well as teaching strategies to motivate Lumad children to study hard.
The memorandum encompasses guidelines on how teachers can defend their rights towards Military group who wants to enter their community school. The process that Armed group should have are written forms of request and approval from the Government, their conduct of activity and written report as their access for entering schools.
Present on the said event is IP Rep. Hon. Datu Rodrigo A. Ambasan who shared his gratitude towards Panabo Government for giving way to such activity for the improvement and educational awareness to Lumad IP teachers.
Also present on the said event is DepEd Panabo Division School Superintendent, Cristy Epe who shared her sentiments regarding their search for IP teachers who sincerely have hearts for teaching. “Teaching is a commitment and teaching should come from the heart so as to boost the confidence of every child” she added.
The seminar was also graced by Panabo City Vice Mayor Janrey G. Gavina who gratefully showed his gratitude for IP teachers welcoming them to the City.
Some of the school attendees are from Salugpongan Ta Tanu Igkanagon Community Learning Center and Center for the Lumad Advocacy Inc.
There are also 24 community schools from different barangays all over Mindanao who sent IP teachers to join the seminar namely from Talaingod Palma Gil, Barangay Daguhoy Compostela Valley, Tibagon Mabini, Pagsabangan, Manurigao, Barangays Manggayon, Ngan, San Miguel, Comval, Taytayan, Malibago and Giangga Tugbok.
